Fashion’s Night Out a Deux

It’s that time of year again. The air is beginning to get a little fresher, the sky darkens a wee bit earlier and New York City has a muted, yet very nearly audible buzz in the air. It’s September and that means back to school for the kids, summer rentals coming to a close, and the September issues hit the stands, each bursting with all the latest and greatest looks for Fall.

On the fashion front, this is when I start to have a mini-anxiety attack. Nothing grand, mind. Just a dull, yet persistent stream of though, consisting of how the looks du jour may affect my current wardrobe. What will make the cut, what won’t? I’ve come to acknowledge that there will always be some kind of shortfall. But unlike in years past, I actually addressed the aforementioned angst riddled situation earlier this year and did a pretty brutal purge of said wardrobe. It did feel good, but left some deep and significant holes in my fall attire. And while I am not one to hit the streets to shop (being a working Mom / beauty professional / business woman, I have little time for that) I knew something had to be done, and FAST. Personally, I like to troll sites like Net a Porter or Gilt where I know I can go 24/7 and fine great fashion and for the later, great prices too. Suits my schedule and no footwork required!

Now, I am fully aware that my personal shopping habits may not be the status quo, so for those who actually enjoy the process, Anna Wintour and Vogue Magazine, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and our very own mayor, Mike Bloomberg, are hosting the second annual Fashion’s Night Out. On September 10th, the whole city will be a shopping playground, with events and venues created just for this special evening of consumer bliss. The event was created to encourage people to shop locally and help the financial collective cause. I personally, think it’s a great reason for the city to celebrate being what it is—A fantastic haven of unique shops, designers and people. If there ever were an impetus to get out there and hit the streets this is it, and being the Beauty Sleuth that I am, you know I love anything that has a beauty connection and there are plenty of things during FNO, for the girl who loves a bit of pampering. Even for a self professed internet shopper like myself, there will be a plethora of reasons to get out there on September 10th, namely to celebrate being in such a vibrant city, and of course to find some goodies to fill those holes in my wardrobe!
