Going against your grain or how I got my hair to behave

Keeping it on the Straight and Narrow

I have wavy hair that tends to ‘grow wide’ in extreme heat and humidity. One a really bad day, think Bobble head Doll— Little body, (I’m only 5’3”) with a huge head ( my hair is very long) and you get the picture! and like most girls with this kind of hair, I often covet sleek, satiny straight hair. With summer in full gear, it’s a pretty hard thing to achieve unless you have the right tools. So when I was introduced to H2 Pro’s Vivace nano technology straightening iron, I didn’t hesitate to put it to the test. My first test drive didn’t go as planned.  I can say that for half of my head at least things were going swimmingly, however everything ground to a screeching halt when it became apparent that the iron seemed to switch off midway through the straightening process and I soon realized that it was actually shorting out. Not so good when you have only half your head done. One side looked sleek and the other, well, Chia-Pet like! Not so good. I made a few calls and contacted the company and their PR firm, who where really helpful and agreed to exchange the iron once I posted the faulty one back to them. After a short while, I receive the new iron and was able to re-test the iron. Here are my results:

Usually when I want to have a straight hair day, I wash and blow out my hair first. As my hair tends to frizz out with blow-dryer heat, I really need to use a straightening iron to get the smooth texture I am looking for. I like to use some kind of heat-activated balm on my hair before I straighten, to give my hair a little extra protection. One of my favorites is Kerestase Ciment Thermique. It’s a lightweight cream that really helps keep my hair in shape especially when I am doing a lot of heat styling. After my blow out, I section my hair and start to straighten.  The H2Pro  Vivace is a professional ceramic tourmaline styling tool that generates extreme heat (powering up to 140-450°F in a matter of seconds) by infusing advanced Thermal Ionic and Nano technology. The makers say this iron incorporates an advanced trifecta of distinct Nano technologies: Nano Ti + Nano TiO + Nano Ag. What does this mean for us? It breaks down like this: Nano Ti basically helps your hair can absorb more moisture to create deeper shine, Nano TIO removes chemical and toxic pollutants from daily exposure and Nano AG kills any bacteria from your hair. And unless you live in a bubble, the later are extremely useful components if you are straightening your hair after a few days wash as most likely  your hair will have collected a few extras in the form of toxins and chemicals that are in our environment.  For my test, the straightening process went very smoothly indeed. I got through my hair in about 15 minutes from start to finish and it felt amazingly slick and smooth. I have to admit that when I was out and about, I did have a few Pantene moments! Any why not? When you hair looks this good, it’s worth a few head flicks and swishes or two. Added perk?  I got a “Wow, Your hair looks amazing” from my husband and out on my shoot, a few more positive comments.

All in all, top marks for this iron and while it took awhile due to equipment malfunction etc, between the courteous customer service and living-up-to-the-hype results, I was well pleased with the overall results. Since my initial test-drive, I have used this iron over a dozen times and have duplicated consistent results every time. Available at
